A new edition of live surgery has taken place in Granada last week, by doctors Carlos Galvez and Carlos Milla, a new surgery on the most common eyelid pathologies in our daily clinical practice.
Sixteen patients from the main hospitals in the city were selected presenting the following pathologies:
Palpebral ptosis or drooping of upper eyelids, for different reasons: due to age; of congenital cause or associated with diseases of muscular degenerative type
Ectropion or eversion of the eyelid outwards, whether of a cicatricial or senile cause.
Entropion or inversion of the eyelid inwards.
Dermatochalasia or excess skin and fat related to age, whose surgical treatment is Blepharoplasty.
To establish a correct surgical indication, the different methods and diagnostic tests for the classification of all these diseases were analyzed.
The results obtained with patients in surgeries from previous years were seen.
The techniques to be carried out in each specific case were established, such as: Advancement of the aponeurosis of the levator muscle and anchoring it to the tarsus, canthopexy and cantolysis, reinsertion of the retractor muscles and shortening of the orbicular, pulls tarsal with fixation to the periosteum and medial spindle to make the lacrimal punctures contact the eyeball. Small incision surgeries were also performed for the upper eyelid elevator anchor to tarsus.
Assistants were divided into four groups and, along with doctors Ramon Medel (IMO), and Dr. Marquez (IMO), among others, all the surgeries indicated were carried out step by step.
It has been a practical course for ophthalmologists with an interest in Oculoplastic Surgery. A subspecialty within our profession, which deals with eyelid, orbital and lacrimal pathologies.
