There have been refresher courses In each of the medical subspecialties of this specialty, and we have attended live the launch of new drugs, diagnostic equipment, intraocular lenses and MIGS or micro-devices of insertion for Glaucoma.
The specialty of Ophthalmology, is characterized by its constant state of innovation and research, being probably the most changing of medical specialties, which requires constant updating.
Recent Soft corticoid drugs without preservatives, such as the “Softacor” of THEA laboratories, occupy a large void in moderate inflammations of the anterior ocular pole for which the therapeutic arsenal was limited, due to the great problem of drug stocking that has lately.
ANGELINI, has released “Styla FORTE wipes”, are the first on the market with tea tree extract as eradicator of chronic Blepharitis, and has complemented them with a new artificial tear “Lubristil LIPO”, for the evaporative dry eye including fat component to prevent tear evaporation in contact with the ocular surface.
Regarding equipment, ALCON showed live its surgical microscope HEIDELBERG with 3D vision.After several years, it has released its new OCT of previous pole. This is a new technology that combines biometrics and topography also front and back, It is a versatile and reliable system when performing cataract preoperative, and also to explore possible causes of complications of this and other surgical procedures, as the use of pre-crystalline lenses or intracorneal rings.
They have also shown, the first yellow laser Quantel Medical “Easyret” useful in pathologies of the posterior pole, refractory to conventional lasers.
As for intraocular lenses, the first sinusoidal trifocal lens existing on the market deserves special mention, thanks to OFTALTECH.These new changes in lens optic, get better visual quality and better contrast sensivity, as well as an extended range vision, which other multifocal lenses do not have because of the improved depth of focus that it presents.
BLOSS has presented its lens Edoff Lucidis, with fewer nighttime halos to drive.
And finally, commenting on the I-stent Glaukos. It is the MIGS for glaucoma, the smallest on the market and has been improved by introducing two preloaded devices in its injector, thus its effect is superior to the old version. It is indicated for patients with glaucoma controlled with two drugs, to eliminate or reduce using of drops for a while, with a minimally invasive technology.
