One of the most popular Ophthalmological Congresses in Spain: “FACOELCHE 2018” has been recently held
In it, every technological and cutting-edge innovation in the world of Ophthalmology is treated annually, with special emphasis on the subspecialty of cataract and refractive.
This year, in addition to the cast of national and international figures to which we are accustomed, have been topics of great interest, the point where laser eye surgery is found of Femtosecond in relation to our most frequent ocular surgery.
There has also been talk about the IPL system or pulsed light and thermotherapy in chronic diseases such as blepharitis, being effective both systems and having meibomian gland function by secreting its liquid content and thus prevent tear evaporation and dry eye.
The first Cyclosporine in commercially available collyrium is commercialized in Spain (until now patients had to order it in foreign countries), its use being indicated in chronic pathologies such as inflammatory dry eye, inflammatory infiltrates after viral conjunctivitis of great importance and severe vernal keratoconjunctivitis in the childhood.
The latest biometric calculation system “PANACEA” designed by the Costa Rican ophthalmologist David Flikier has been shelled, for the most accurate adjustment in the calculation of intraocular lenses in normal eyes and in eyes already altered by pathologies or by previous surgeries such as the Excimer laser for myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. In recent years we are always looking systems with greater accuracy in refractive results, due to using the called “Premium lenses,” which require a higher level of demand to achieve greater advantages.
-The use of platelet growth factors in corneal problems or keratitis resistant to common lubricants has been recalled. These are available in eye drops, in membranes for surgical use and in plasma clot enriched in platelets.
-One more year has been spoken of the minimally invasive devices in glaucoma surgery and those most used in ophthalmological surgical practice, seeing surgeries of Cycon de Alcon and Xen de Allergan.
As every year, also there has been a live surgery session with the most current platforms and instruments, and a review has been made about the advantages and disadvantages of multifocal lenses on the market, as well as lenses EDOFF or extended vision range.
-There was a special section to study “Forofacoelche”, to which thousands of ophtalmologists from all over the world belong, this being a profesional forum for learning,debate and updating that helps us in complex cases in our daily practice, as well as a transmission tool of our knoledge so important to be updated
-A new medical society has been consolidated: “Professional association of Spanish Ophthalmologists or APOE”, for the defense of the visual health of the population, the defense of the Ophthalmologist, and to avoid the optical intrusiveness in our profession. All these topics and many more, as always in a relaxed and enriching ambience, which is one of our first level congresses.
